Nice from Top to Bottom
- Paint and Body
The original Lemon Yellow finish with a contrasting black top almost makes you think you’re in the showroom at the VW dealership back in 1979. The body is straight and the panel gaps appear correct. There is a paint scrape and a small dent by the left rear wheel (see pictures).
The chrome and stainless trim is all in nice condition.
The underside of this Beetle has surface rust, mainly on what have become unpainted surfaces over the years.
- Interior
The all tan vinyl interior is clean and in good condition.
The convertible top is in very nice condition; the headliner has several tears but is in useable condition. Recall that VW put a glass rear window into its ’79 convertibles and this one is in good condition.
The gauges work properly as do the lights, wipers, turn signals and horn.
- Engine
The Super Beetle’s engine is factory fuel-injected with a displacement of almost 1600cc/1.6 L. The car has plenty of pep to make any trip enjoyable.
- Transmission
The car’s 4-speed manual transmission works so smoothly it’s a joy to drive.
- Brakes
The brakes on this VW were just rebuilt and they bring the car to a stop without any pulling from side to side.

Beetle Convertibles
There is one word that can best describe this 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle by Karmann: FUN! Good paint, nice upholstery, very nice convertible top all of which make this classic Volkswagen a fun car to drive as well as a sound investment. And with this great Spring weather, what could be more fun than dropping the top and taking a spin in the countryside?
What can’t be quantified is the feeling one gets when sitting behind the wheel of this compact car from Germany that many of us owned and all who did, wish we still had one in our garage!
