1968½ Mustang Shelby GT 500 King of the Road

Two brothers bought this ’68 ½ GT500 KR new and drove it for a few years before they were called away to college and the military.  They left this powerful Shelby GT in the care of their mother, a kindergarten teacher, who would, on occasion, drive it to school.  When the young men returned, they reclaimed their car and it found it’s way into the garage of one of them.  There it sat—unused and collecting dust—for the next 35 years until they recently brought it to the Classic Car Center for “recommissioning”.  Our job entails getting this high-performance Shelby back on the road so they can use it for a year or two with the eventual thought of selling it to a buyer who will do a rotisserie restoration.

Broadly, our tasks include: a rebuild of the 428 Cobra Jet engine, rebuilding the automatic transmission, re-doing the fuel system and brakes, installing a new wiring harness and exhaust system, etc.  We have just removed the engine and transmission, and shall be posting pictures as the assignment progresses.
