A Body-off Restoration

This Dodge Wayfarer has been restored from front to back and top to bottom over the past 10 years.  The body was removed from the frame and then the body panels were removed and chemically stripped before the car was repainted.  The bumpers/bumper guards were re-chromed.  The interior was completely redone in leather and updated to match the body’s color scheme.  Both the engine and the transmission were rebuilt.  The fuel system was redone; and the car’s mechanical and electrical systems were carefully vetted.

1952 Wayfarer

The Wayfarer was Dodge’s entry level car and 1952 was the last year it was produced.  As a result, finding a restored example is akin to finding hen’s teeth.  And seeing other examples at local or even regional car shows is unlikely which imparts a certain exclusivity to a Wayfarer owner.

Very Nice Driving Car!

·        Paint and Chrome

The Blue and white re-paint is in very good condition, while not an original color in 1952, it was a Chrysler color a bit later in the ‘50s.   The paint gleams and shows off the car’s great lines.

Almost all of the exterior chrome was redone or replaced and gives a fresh look to this Wayfarer.

The body and underside of the car are free of rust and the engine compartment is nicely detailed.

·        Interior

The seat upholstery and door panels were all redone to match the blue and white exterior, and all are in very good condition. The seats were recovered in leather.  The headliner has been replaced as has the carpet.

·        Engine

The car’s 230 cid six cylinder engine (100 hp) sits nestled in a detailed engine bay.  The original 2-bbl carburetor was replaced with a two 1-bbl configuration.  The engine was rebuilt with hardened valve seats ten years ago and has traveled  less than 500 miles since then.

·        Transmission

The semi-automatic Fluid Drive transmission shifts properly and smoothly.  It was rebuilt about 10 years ago and has had less than 500 miles of use ever since.

·        Tires, Brakes, Safety and Monitoring Systems

This Wayfarer has 4 wide whitewall BF Goodrich radial tires, size 215/70 R 15 with plenty of tread.

All of the engine/systems monitoring gauges (temperature, amp and oil pressure) work properly.  Similarly, the lights, horn, and turn signals (yes, turn signals) all work properly, although the clock is stuck in 1940.  The brake lights, gas gauge and heater will each need some attention.

An Excellent Example from the last year of production for the Dodge Wayfarer

This Wayfarer is a fully restored example of the well-regarded Dodge business coupe. These original cars are highly in demand and in short supply.  They therefore represent not just a great driving experience but a sound investment as well.  And if there was ever a car that transports you back to the early ‘50’s, this is it. Apart from the investment value of this car, it is hard to put a price on the feeling of enjoyment when other drivers and pedestrians wave and give you a “thumbs up” as you drive by with your Dodge Ram hood ornament gleaming in the sunlight!
