1976 Triumph TR6:
Drive the 4-Stars’ Car
Purchased new by a then recently minted Major, the now retired 4-Star General and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is relinquishing command of his 1976 Triumph TR 6 after 48 years of dependable service. The car is just about as spirited today as it was on its first day of service for the young Major.
The TR6’s are a long-time favorite to fans of British sports cars: plenty of power, manual transmission and a blast to drive. This 1976 model is a standout because:
- Distinguished VIP owner
- Very nice condition
- Nice paint
- Like-new interior
- Nice top
- Boot cover
- Tonneau
- 4-stars on the windshield !
For those of you who wish to look further into this car’s history, its VIN is: CF53624U
A Great Example of the Marque!
This TR6 is as attractive to look at as it is fun to drive:
- Paint and Chrome
The Carmine (paint code 82) finish on this Triumph is a lustrous dark red, refreshed in 1990, and is in nice driver quality condition. The paint gleams and shows off this sports car’s great lines.
The chrome is in very nice condition.
The body and underside of the car appear free of rust, (other than normal underside surface corrosion–see pictures). The engine compartment is clean.
- Interior
The Tan upholstery (seats as well as door panels) are in very nice condition. The dash and carpeting are in nice condition as well.
- Engine
The 6 cylinder OHV engine runs and drives well. It is fully capable of propelling this Triumph through the curves and twists of mountain roads as well as docile enough to take you to the ice cream Shoppe.
- Transmission
The manual 4-speed synchromesh transmission shifts properly and smoothly as one would expect from this famous marque.
- Top, Boot Cover and Tonneau
The black convertible top is in excellent condition and is simple to operate. The car has a boot cover as well to protect the top when it is down. [And for those who like top-down driving on chilly days, the black tonneau is the answer for keeping the driver’s lower extremities warm(er) while blasting along on a fall or winter night.]
- Tires, Brakes, and Monitoring Systems
This TR6 has 4 correct factory wheels mounted with 205/70R15 tires installed in 2000 but retaining most of their tread.
The brakes are disc in the front and drum on the back that work properly and smoothly in bringing the car to a rapid and safe stop from the higher speeds it’s capable of reaching.
All of the engine/systems monitoring gauges/lights (speedometer, tachometer, water temperature, fuel, amp and oil pressure) appear to work properly. Similarly, the lights, horn, and turn signals all work correctly; the back-up lights, such as they are, will need attention.
- Safety and Convenience Features
The TR6 is equipped with driver’s and passenger’s seat belts. Should you get caught in a sudden rainstorm, the convertible top provides a ready answer for your comfort.
