That’s a pretty impressive statement: “best Mustang ever” coming from a prestigious motor vehicle testing organization like Car & Driver. But one drive will convince you they are right: amazing power, total comfort, great looks and reliability! Ford only made 4,000 of these units during its 2-year (2012 and 2013) production run, so its collectability is guaranteed.
Ours: Race Red with only 3197 miles
This car was bought new from a Virginia dealer in February 2012, and has been garage-kept in Virginia ever since. The car’s owner is a knowledgeable collector and has driven this Boss 302 enough to keep it in top mechanical condition. Never raced (the ”TracKey” has not been activated), this Mustang has had a pampered existence. Just detailed, it looks like it did when it left the showroom.
- Paint
Finished in Ford’s Race Red, the car features the factory’s Boss 302 white hood and roof striping complemented by a black decklid spoiler. Black painted aluminum 19” wheels completes the exterior package.
- Interior
The all black interior is highlighted by the optional Boss Recaro sport seats that are an appropriate option for such a high performance car. It also has the accessory package that includes special floor mats and a custom car cover.
- Mechanical
- Engine: The Boss 302’s V-8 produces 444 horsepower at 7500 rpm that enables the car to reach 60 mph from a stopped start in 4.3 seconds.
- Transmission: The smooth-as-silk 6-speed transmission is fun to drive, especially with the short-throw shifter used by the Boss.
- Differential: this car has the optional limited-slip Torsen rear, helping to bring those 444 horses headed in the right direction.
- Brakes: Up front the Boss has Brembo brakes and 14” vented rotors allowing repeated quick stops without fading.
Driving a Legend
While the name is legendary, the 2012 Boss 302 represents significant advantages over it’s 1969-70 namesake: better performance, smoother handling and superior comfort. As Car & Driver found: the 2012 Boss 302 is the “best Mustang ever” and we have a low-mileage beauty for your garage.
